Air Purifier Installation & Repair

Air purifiers are used to filter irritating airborne particles such as pollen, dust, bacteria & viruses, pet dander and mold spores from the air in your home. There are small units designed to purify the air within single rooms, and also large, whole-house units that connect to your HVAC system.

At Calvey Heating and Air, we specialize in installing, repairing and maintaining whole-house air purifiers. If you’re an allergy sufferer or have pets, an air purifier can significantly improve your quality of life.

How Do Air Purifiers Work?

Most air purifiers used for for residential applications use a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. HEPA filters are made of randomly arranged fibers designed to capture particles. By definition, a HEPA filter must be capable of removing 99.97% of particles sized 0.3µm. They work using three principles:

  • Interception: Particles following a line of flow in the air stream come within one radius of a fiber in the filter to adhere to it.
  • Impaction: Larger particles are unable to avoid the fibers in the filter by following the curving contours of the air stream and are forced to embed in one of them directly.
  • Diffusion: The collision of very small particles (below 0.1 µm in diameter) with gas molecules impedes their motion through the filter, therefore trapping them.
